This page used to be filled with a journal-type listing of my miscellaneous updates on what games I'm playing and my gaming history, largely dominated by Quake years in college. I decided that takes up way too much space and time for people (including myself) to ever want to read again, so I've banished those entries to the dusty parts of my computer, and will instead just make one smaller post here. Gaming is not as prolific in my life as it used to be (I used to spend entire summer breaks doing little more than sleeping, eating, and playing Nintendo games), but it is still something I love to do, actively do, and will likely continue to do for many decades. I started gaming back in 4th grade when Andy Cusano came to my class and brought with him the first Nintendo any of us had seen. Many of us were hooked from the start. I played Nintendo, Gameboy, and Super Nintendo up into high school, considering myself a huge gaming geek complete with a Nintendo Power subscription for many years and a video rental card just to rent every game in the store every summer. Once I got into computers, console games took a distant back seat to my obsession with playing games like Doom, Doom 2, Descent, Heretic, Hexen, and later Quake over a modem connection with my friends Chad and Ryan. Upon heading to college, I was firmly in the grasp of Quake, a grip that would endure for about 4 years as I played, competed, and eventually helped organize a budding online gaming community. I also played heavily in and organized some of the most recognized events in Unreal Tournament in my later years at college. My passion even turned into a well-paying part-time fun job for a while, and netted me a few grand in prize monies. Now, I'm not so much a computer gamer as I am an all-around gamer that somewhat misses his consoles of yore. I play emulators and my old systems now and then, but I still largely just play computer games and Gameboy Advance SP games. My habits are not nearly as obsessive as they used to be, but I am proud and happy with my past in gaming, and my continued passion for console and computer games. |
